The most serene electric car is a DS Automobiles creation. After DS 3, DS 4, DS 7 and DS 9, DS N°8 marks the beginning of a new era. DS N°8 is the first of the Brand's designs to be solely 100% electric.
"At a time when our industry is undergoing a revolution, DS Automobiles is at the forefront by accelerating its electrification strategy. With DS N°8, the Brand is part of the energy transition by offering sustainable and uncompromising mobility in a setting driven by the French Art of Travel. The men and women from DS Automobiles have chosen materials and technology that position DS N°8 in this dimension." Olivier François, DS Automobiles CEO
Through this reveal, DS Automobiles is unveiling a new naming philosophy. "N°" because it represents the standard way of writing "number" in French, embodying elegance and timelessness. In addition, the "°" on the rear of the car is drawn like the tip of a diamond, in reference to the DS Automobiles DNA. This approach links the names of the existing range to future models by keeping numbers but introducing a bolder rationale with "N°" (number). The future DS Automobiles range will follow this new naming convention. For DS N°8, the number 8 is unprecedented for DS Automobiles. Its shape, close to the infinity sign, is associated with balance and serenity. To strengthen the Brand's identity, the car's rear will carry the "DS AUTOMOBILES" lettering completed by "N°8".
DS N°8: AN "AERO-EFFICIENT" MODEL
Inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept, DS N°8 demonstrates a progressive approach to great French coachbuilding. DS N°8 is a model focused on the search for aero-efficiency. This pursuit of efficiency has clearly inspired its design with its taut and tapered lines. DS N°8 is fully in line with the avant-garde of the original DS introduced in 1955, the SM launched in 1970 and the pioneering spirit that has driven the Brand since its creation in 2014.
Bursting with refinement and technology, DS N°8's design is a projection into the future and manifesto for the French Art of Travel. DS N°8's shape is an invitation to cover long distances through its record-setting aerodynamics. Its Cx of only 0.24 and its SCx of 0.64, are among the best in its class. DS N°8 shows these aerodynamic characteristics perfectly through the smoothness of its lines which make the flow of air around the car's body obvious. Each part of the bodywork has been scrutinised in the wind tunnel. All the work on aerodynamics represents a 15 dm² saving in SCx, ie. a range increase of 60 km WLTP and 75 km on the motorway. This technical feat was achieved without any compromise to the exterior design's appeal.
"DS N°8 combines the best of both worlds: charisma with a strong front and rear identity, and elegance visible in the purity of its fastback profile, emphasised by a flowing and continuous roof line to the tailgate. With DS N°8, the designers envisaged the evolution of SUV coupés, illustrated by an efficient, elegant shape with a spectacular and high-tech light signature." Thierry Metroz, DS Automobiles Design Director
The external dimensions give DS N°8 presence and perfect balance: 4.82 m long with a width reaching 1.90 m and a height limited to 1.58 m.
DS N°8 showcases a spectacular light signature
At the front, DS N°8 embraces an advanced and appealing light signature.
The DS LUMINASCREEN illuminated grille, an innovation in the automotive world, is lit up with vertical lines and a DS logo illuminated for the first time on a production model.
The headlamps, consisting of three modules, are outlined by 8 LEDs that take the Clous de Paris pattern, echoing the interior trim's embossed finish.
The DS LIGHTBLADE completes this signature. The V-shaped layout, which first appeared on the DS E-TENSE PERFORMANCE technology laboratory, visually places the car on the road while emphasising its width and asserting its status. Slim and elongated, the DS LIGHTBLADE is vertical, in line with all the models in the DS Automobiles range. Integrated into the side curves of the bumper, it also contributes to DS N°8's aero-efficiency by minimising airflow detachment up to the front wheels.
DS N°8 is the first model in the DS range to embrace the vertical light signature at the rear. Directly inspired by DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE, it echoes the iconic vertical signature at the front to make DS N°8 instantly recognisable at night, more than 100 metres away. The trihedral shape of the vertical LIGHT BLADE lights improves airflow detachment at the rear. Lastly, scale patterns finish off the interior of the tapered horizontal rear lights. They are now three-dimensional to be even more striking.
DS N°8 features extended duo tone paintwork
DS N°8 has been designed around a subtle balance between smooth and sensual surfaces along the sides, contrasting with chiselled and sharp lines front and rear. As on DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE, the extended duo tone paintwork uses a deep black. This colour is on the roof, continues onto the bonnet and extends to the grille. This extended duo tone emphasises the character and elegance of the shape and represents a nod to the heyday of French coachbuilding. The "Paintjet" technology used to create the duo tone bonnet's black surface is a world first in mass production. Its application process, which doesn't require a baking phase, also keeps down greenhouse gas emissions.
Five colours are being offered, including three new ones: TOPAZ BLUE, PALLADIUM GREY and ALABASTER WHITE, which are added to the other colours: CRYSTAL PEARL and PERLA NERA BLACK.
DS N°8 has a shape designed for aero efficiency
DS N°8's shape assumes a taut, elongated and tapered profile that is illustrated by a roof stretching down to the tailgate's spoiler. The latter optimises the wake with a resulting 3 dm² SCx saving, i.e. 12 km WLTP or 15 km on the motorway.
The elaborate body shape of DS N°8 helps airflow. Based on a generous wheelbase of 2.90 m and a ground clearance reduced by 15.5 cm DS N°8 optimises its air penetration and provides an amazing range of up to 750 km WLTP. The powered flush-fitting door handles at the front are painted in the bodywork colour, while the rear door handles are integrated into the door pillars.
This "aero-efficiency" is complemented by high-tech parts such as the CONTROLLED AIR INTAKES, which are air intakes with moving flaps integrated into the front bumper. By closing for cooling, they represent an aerodynamic gain of 95 % relative to a traditional air intake and 40 % compared to competing devices, for a 4.5 dm² SCx saving, equivalent to 18 km WLTP or 22,5 km on the motorway. This performance is mainly due to their forward position in the bumper, thus avoiding any airflow beneath the bonnet. It should be noted that the bonnet is particularly low, again with the aim of optimising energy consumption.
Aerodynamic performance is enhanced by the presence of the front DS LIGHTBLADE which slices through the air like a boat's bow for a 2 dm² saving, i.e. + 8 km WLTP / +10 km on the motorway. The rear DS LIGHTBLADE optimises airflow detachment like an aeroplane wing for a 1 dm² saving, i.e. + 4 km WLTP / +5 km on the motorway.
The large wheels (740 mm in diameter) give the car a unique stance. The 21-inch forged wheels have been designed to combine lightness and robustness. They weigh 6 kg less than the 20-inch ones, a significant saving in unsprung mass for the benefit of comfort. The 19-inch rims are particularly efficient with aerodynamic inserts for a gain of 1 dm² or 4 km WLTP and 5 km on the motorway.
The breast of DS N°8, completely tiled, helps to optimise the SCx by 3.5 dm² or + 14 km WLTP or +18 km on motorway.
THE ART OF TRAVEL GETS A NEW FACE
DS N°8 provides a unique welcome experience that starts even before you get inside. The Proximity Keyless Entry & Start feature operates the powered flush-fitting door handles as you approach the car. DS N°8 then reveals a refined interior exuding an impression of comfort and calm. All DS N°8's interiors feature high-quality materials, including brushed aluminium with a striking thickness and finish on larger areas.
A dashboard combining expertise and technology
DS N°8 has a cockpit that embodies French comfort, serenity and luxury. The wide dashboard envelops the occupants and exemplifies the seamless spirit ("Seamless Design"). It is both decorative, like a piece of craftsmanship, and technical through the integration of the sound system, air vents and light signatures. The purity of its design perfectly combines a high level of expertise ("High Craft") and advanced technology ("High-Tech"), which bears witness to a perfect alchemy between the technical sophistication and skill of DS Automobiles in the application of material.
The Clous de Paris embossed inserts on the steering wheel and air vents, as well as the pearl stitching on the dashboard and armrests, central to DS Automobiles, are still present. With the Nappa leather watchstrap upholstery, these essentials contribute to the Art of Travel the Brand offers.
Travel in light
Lighting is a major feature in the new generation of DS interiors. Designed to structure parts while making them float, it exudes an atmosphere of purity and calm. The Inner LIGHTBLADE vertical light signatures that echo the exterior daytime running lights, bring the ends of the dashboard to life and mark the position of the door handles. These light up when the doors open to welcome occupants. The console's backlit graphics are inspired by a starlit sky.
A cockpit where serenity reigns supreme
Inspired by the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept, the seats with their "enveloping" construction feature a slender shape with fully integrated head restraints. The use of high-density foams and the appearance of adjustable side bolsters on the backrests complete the comfortable seating. The front seats are massaging, cooled and heated.
Close-up thermal comfort is enhanced by the DS NECK WARMER, a device that favours heating as close to the body as possible to enhance energy consumption. These neck warmers fitted into the backrests of the front seats are illuminated by a backlit DS logo with a crystal appearance.
In the rear, the occupants of the seats benefit from meticulously studied postural comfort, with ample knee room, 84cm of headroom and backrests inclined at 30°, without compromise on their 40/20/40 modularity. Cooled and heated seat bases and backrests complete the comfort.
DS N°8 also enjoys benchmark soundproofing assisted by carefully fashioned aerodynamics, a complete acoustic treatment and laminated glass, which complete the promise of a first-class journey.
Animated instrument display
When the doors are opened, the DS logo appears in the middle of the 10.25" instrument display. It comes to life and welcomes the driver with subtly shimmering gold highlights. When driving, the dynamic "Digital ART" content livens up the background of the instrument display. This animation contributes to serenity on journeys. The speed of this animation is gentle while the contours of the patterns blend into a darker background, so that the driver stays focused on the essential information. In the middle, the design of the odometer is inspired by the world of watchmaking. The readability of the battery charge indicator and the "power meter" take precedence.
X-shaped steering wheel
The new X-shaped steering wheel, inspired by our latest concept cars, is now coming to DS N°8. Its design breaks with established rules, while its architecture and enhanced ergonomics offer the driver new grip zones that contribute to driving enjoyment. Its rim is covered in different materials depending on the specification level. Fully covered, this new steering wheel also contributes to the idea of close-up thermal comfort through its heating function.
Bespoke centre console
With DS N°8, the French Art of Travel takes on a new dimension. The interior features a double-decker floating centre console. The upper part is devoted to the main interactive features. The "PRND" transmission selector, the "Drive Mode" setting selector as well as the audio system's instant access volume control fall perfectly to hand. These features have been designed like crystals, in keeping with jewellery, while a subtle light animation alludes to the shape of a galaxy. The phone storage area, trimmed in Alcantara®, is like a precious casket. A covered palm rest contains extra hidden storage, while the armrest accommodates a large additional area. In the lower part, a large storage space that can be hidden by a sliding shutter accommodates 2 removable cup holders and 2 USB-C sockets. The sides of the console are covered and padded to be pleasant to the touch and in contact with the leg.
Large, neatly integrated central display
Generously sized at 16-inch, and able to be personalised, it provides access to the functions of DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0 controllable by speech recognition. It is integrated into the dashboard and works seamlessly and responsively like a smartphone. Very slim, it blends perfectly into the surface of the dashboard without encroaching on its trim. Users will appreciate both the enhanced performance of this high-tech feature and its sleek design. The chrome stencilling brings a touch of refinement never before applied to a production car.
Another step towards respecting the environment
DS Automobiles wanted to go further in respecting the environment when designing its cockpits. The ETOILE interior features an exclusive Alcantara®, made from 68 % recycled materials. The full-grain Nappa leather, incorporating revised watchstrap seats, is now tanned with olive leaf using a traditional non-toxic and totally biodegradable method. Materials reclaimed at the end of their life are also present in the textiles (60 %), carpet (75 %), and floor mats (96 %). The removal of chrome in favour of paint, brushed aluminium and stainless steel, is also part of this approach.
A panoramic glass roof with higher thermal performance
DS N°8 can be fitted with a big panoramic screen-printed glass roof that maximises headroom and maintains aerodynamic efficiency while providing occupants with a bright atmosphere inside. Its laminated glass is composed of several layers, including an infrared treatment and a "Low E" coating dedicated to thermal performance (summer and winter). A special coating aimed at protecting from light and limiting reflection with no impact on transparency has also been developed. DS N°8 thus dispenses with a glass roof darkening function, which has very little impact on performance (differences of 1 % in total solar transmission and 2 % in light transmission).
A large and functional boot
DS N°8 has a sizeable rectangular boot - up to 620 litres under the shelf which makes it easy to use. The tailgate, whose power opening can be set over a wide range (185 cm under the tailgate), allows users to access the boot without having to stoop while maintaining versatility. The depth of the space - 1.16 m - makes it possible to carry long objects without needing to fold down the rear seat backrests.
An integrated FOCAL Electra® 3D Hi-fi
DS Automobiles and premium French audio specialist FOCAL have joined forces to develop a system that offers a new concept in integrating 14 speakers throughout the cockpit for a power output of 690 W and an immersive experience, served by a height-adjustable soundstage.
Inside DS N°8, the speaker grilles have merged with the aluminium door trim. To achieve the necessary graphic precision on aluminium, DS Automobiles has used laser technology that is unprecedented in the automotive world. The system is complemented by two speakers at roof level that contribute to the clear, immersive and three-dimensional sound of the audio system available in DS N°8.
Interior settings
DS N°8 offers a remarkable choice of interior harmonies to accompany the PALLAS and ETOILE specifications. The new harmonious Eternal Blue is the signature colour of DS N°8's interior.
DS Pearl Grey and Eternal Blue canvas
The unique harmony of an Eternal Blue contrasting with the elegant Light Grey, known as Pearl, contributes to making the atmosphere inside DS N°8 peaceful and light. The DS canvas is produced with an iridescent mother-of-pearl that gives it an elegant and refined pearl effect. In the cockpit, this light colour contrasts harmoniously with an enigmatic and deep Eternal Blue, designed especially for DS N°8.
DS Basalt Black canvas
With the Basalt Black backdrop, the changes between gloss and matt blacks enhance the bearing of a deep black, present on "Graphik Black" statement surfaces. The door and dashboard trims are inspired by straw marquetry, like in the DS AERO SPORT LOUNGE concept. Finally, plays of light appear in the deep black trim, enhanced by Light Gold coloured lines.
Eternal Blue Alcantara®
The Eternal Blue colour has been specially developed for DS N°8 to enhance the Alcantara®, which is ordinarily black. This deep blue gives the material an appearance and refinement that are unique. The stitching pattern on the seats and door panels is inspired by the steering wheel's distinctive X-shape.
Alezan Nappa Brown or Basalt Black Leather
The premium and stylish interior of DS N°8 is enhanced by the watchstrap upholstery Nappa leather of its seats, one of the pillars of DS Automobiles. This leather is also found on the embossed door trim. The Alezan Brown brings warmth and clarity. Black, the vital colour for the cockpits of premium cars, is offered here in a very chic variation called Basalt.
Light Gold trim
The inspiration for this satin colour called "Light Gold" comes from the shades found on the grilles of luxury vehicles from the 1930s. This subtle and elegant colour is used in several parts of the cockpit, bringing warmth and refinement to everything. The dashboard and door trim, in unidirectional brushed aluminium, take this warm and refined colour. Light Gold is also on the central and side air vent trim as well as on the DS NECK WARMER on the seats' backrests. Light Gold paint is favoured over satin chrome, in keeping with a "chrome detox".
DS N°8: THE DYNAMIC SERENITY FROM DS AUTOMOBILES
DS N°8 is absolutly synonymous with dynamic serenity through the implementation of cutting-edge technologies aimed at enhancing the driving experience. The Art of Travel has been designed through features devised and developed by DS Automobiles.
"DS N°8, our brand's new 100% electric flagship, offers absolute comfort without compromising dynamic handling, with unrivalled electric efficiency in the class and safety at the highest level." Agnès Tesson-Faget, DS Automobiles Product Director
DS N°8 uses the Stellantis Group's STLA Medium platform. This has been optimised in length and width to accommodate batteries up to a capacity of 97.2 kWh. It also fits the new DS Automobiles flagship's large 740 mm diameter wheels. This combination of battery capacity, a restricted wheelbase and large wheels is unique on the market.
DS N°8 benefits from new front and rear axles, a braking system adapted to its electric technology, and chassis settings that are perfectly in line with the Brand's DNA. More than ever, DS N°8 embodies dynamic serenity.
Batteries Made in France
The Stellantis Group's strategy is to design and produce its main electrification technology in-house, but also in France. For example, the cells for DS N°8's NMC (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt) battery are designed and produced in Billy-Berclau Douvrin (62, France) by ACC, a joint venture in which Stellantis is one of the founders and the largest shareholder.
DS N°8's electric motor was designed and produced in Trémery (France) by NPE, another joint venture involving the Group.
Up to 350 hp and 750 km range
DS N°8 will be available with a choice of three 100% electric drivetrains developing 230 hp, 245 hp and 350 hp, the latter being fitted with two electric motors for four-wheel drive. All motors enjoy excess power that periodically gives an extra 30 hp to the FWD version - so 260 hp, 35 hp to the FWD LONG RANGE version - so 280 bhp, and 25 bhp to the AWD LONG RANGE model - so 375 bhp.
The work carried out on the car's aerodynamics makes it possible to improve range significantly while remaining faithful to the Brand's design and technical DNA. DS N°8 is available with a choice of two batteries. The first provides a usable capacity of 74 kWh to DS N°8 FWD (230 hp). The second, with a net capacity of 97.2 kWh, is fitted to the FWD LONG RANGE (245 hp) and AWD LONG RANGE (350 hp) versions. DS N°8 FWD LONG RANGE has a range of 750 km for a consumption of 12.9 kWh/100 km (standard WLTP cycle). It also claims an impressive range of more than 500 km on the motorway (at a constant speed of 120 km/h).
DS N°8 offers first-rate performance, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds for the AWD LONG RANGE version, and in 7.7 / 7.8 seconds for the FWD versions. Every DS N°8 has its top speed limited to 190 km/h.
Intelligent four-wheel drive management
On DS N°8 AWD LONG RANGE, management of the rear electric power unit has been designed to offer the best experience for the driving mode and conditions. In ECO mode, DS N°8 uses only front-wheel drive, except in kick-down, which instantly releases all the power available to all four wheels. In Normal mode, DS N°8 AWD LONG RANGE uses its two motors to maximise traction when starting off, then the rear axle disconnects between 15 and 140 km/h if grip conditions allow. If necessary, the rear motor reconnects immediately. This intermittent disengagement optimises energy efficiency and therefore range. In Sport and AWD modes, the driver enjoys permanent four-wheel drive with torque management specific to each program. In Sport mode, priority is given to power, while AWD mode maximises traction. The driver can monitor all driving-related information on the digital instrument display.
Easier charging and shorter stops with DS N°8
DS N°8 allows you to limit the number and duration of stops during long journeys. It is the only vehicle in its class capable of traveling the 450 km from Paris to Lyon by motorway without having to be charged.
With a maximum charge power of 160 kW constant between 20% and 55% of the charge level and the presence of a battery preconditioning device, it is possible to increase charge from 20% to 80% in 27 minutes on a fast terminal. This represents 200 km of range recovered in just 10 minutes.
For everyday journeys that require a shorter range, DS N°8 has an 11 kW on-board AC charger (optional 22 kW at a later date) and offers intelligent battery management. Activated from the car's central screen or via the MyDS app, SBM (Smart Battery Management) limits the charge to 80 %, which is recommended to protect the performance and longevity of the cells.
The 11 kW and 22 kW on-board chargers will offer V2L (Vehicle to Load) functionality, for charging an external electrical device.
Standard heat pump
This makes up an energy-saving air conditioning system in which the refrigerant is compressed, liquefied and evaporated repeatedly, to exchange heat with the outside air. Thanks to an energy-efficient heat pump, the power required to heat the cockpit is up to 40 % lower than that required by a vehicle without one. DS N°8 thus offers a higher level of comfort while conserving its batteries' energy.
Regenerative braking and One-Pedal mode
DS N°8 is efficient in terms of aerodynamics and the technical solutions developed around its motors and batteries. In addition to traditional braking by pedal, DS N°8 offers three different modes of regenerative braking, with three different deceleration strengths (low regeneration of -0.6m/s², moderate regeneration of -1.2 m/s², and high regeneration of -1.8 m/s².
Regenerative braking starts as soon as the driver releases the accelerator pedal and its power can be adjusted by paddles on the steering wheel (left to increase regeneration and braking force, right to decrease it). DS N°8 retains the last mode used in its memory.
In addition to these different levels of regeneration, DS N°8 has a one-pedal feature. Activated via a button on the centre console, it allows you to drive without touching the brake pedal. The driver can then enjoy regenerative braking that intensifies down to -2.5 m/s² until coming to a complete stop.
DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION: for 1st class comfort
DS N°8 is fitted as standard with a variable damping system linked to a camera positioned at the top of the windscreen. Supported by attitude sensors and 3 accelerometers, it analyses the road surface in a few milliseconds and transmits its information to a computer that acts on each wheel. This mechanism activates a motorised solenoid valve that controls the passage of oil from the shock absorber's lower to upper chamber (or vice versa depending on whether the shock absorber needs to compress or release). The suspension adapts perfectly and in real time to the road's irregularities, giving DS N°8 amazing handling and comfort.
DS EXTENDED HEAD UP DISPLAY: much more than a head-up display
With a line of sight adjusted to 1.29 m above the ground, the driver enjoys an optimum driving position. He will also be able to take advantage of DS EXTENDED HEAD UP DISPLAY, an augmented reality head-up display that provides relevant and non-intrusive information such as speed or the road to follow with arrows that ensure you pick correctly between two streets. Road signs scroll smoothly across the windscreen in augmented reality. DS EXTENDED HEAD UP DISPLAY is an efficient and discreet co-pilot.
DS NIGHT VISION
DS NIGHT VISION improves visibility at night thanks to an infrared camera located in the bumper. Consequently, DS N°8 can spot pedestrians and animals up to 300 metres ahead. The system displays a message on the digital instrument display and moving obstacles are indicated first in yellow and then in red to alert the driver. DS NIGHT VISION works as soon as the headlights are switched on. This feature is a real asset when it comes to road safety and ensures a more relaxed drive by night.
DIGITAL REAR VISION
DS N°8 is equipped with a dual-view digital rear-view mirror. This works like a conventional rear-view mirror and also incorporates a digital screen fed by a camera installed in the rear of the car. The driver then has a wide and completely unobstructed field of vision, without rear head restraints, body pillars and passengers. Switching between the two modes is done simply by tilting the mirror using a lever located under its lower edge.
DS PIXELVISION
DS PIXELVISION incorporates all the latest technology (adaptive lights, swivelling main beam, cornering lights, non-dazzling main beam) to provide the best user comfort. A strong part of DS N°8's exterior design, DS PIXELVISION stands out through its eight "diamond tips" housed in its headlamps. Intelligent in its reading of the road, DS PIXELVISION has a range of 400 metres, detects other road users, understands their trajectory and protects them from any blinding beam while continuing to illuminate the road effectively.
Blocking out high-reflection objects such as traffic signs, DS N°8 is equipped with the "HIGH BEAM BOOST" function, which consists of more intense illumination in the centre of the main beam. This mode is automatically activated when speed on a straight road reaches 80 km/h. In these conditions, lighting range is extended to 520 m. Between 40 km/h and 70 km/h, depending on steering wheel angle, an additional light beam illuminates the side of the road to improve visibility.
The low and high beams adapt to illuminate the inside of the bend by following the car's trajectory regardless of its speed. The original DS was the first production car to introduce turning headlights, followed by the SM. DS N°8 is carrying on with this technology.
DS PIXELVISION operates in several modes that are triggered automatically to adjust the light beam depending on driving conditions (city mode, country mode, motorway mode, rain and fog mode).
SAFETY
Because peace of mind also comes with safety, DS N°8 features a wide range of driver aids.
DS DRIVE ASSIST 2.0
DS Drive Assist 2.0 is a further step towards semi-autonomous driving. It provides an advanced semi-automatic lane changing without the driver having to confirm the manoeuvre. Available between 70 and 140 km/h, it activates automatically when the driver operates the turn signal. In this scenario, the system checks that there are no other vehicles in the targeted lane, and if the necessary conditions are met, the semi-automatic lane change begins. The system steers the vehicle into the intended lane with small steering wheel inputs. If the manoeuvre isn't safe, lines are displayed in orange, an audible signal is emitted and it refuses to change lanes.
DS DRIVE ASSIST 2.0 is also enhanced by the ACC PREDICTIVE function. It retains all the features of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC Stop&Go) and adds the possibility to adapt the speed according to the road profile and speed limits. It allows the user to take advantage of the ACC function in a larger number of situations for more serene driving. Thanks to the eHorizon maps and the windshield camera, the system includes the type of road on which the car is (motorway, country road...), speed limitation and also knows the radius of the next turn to adapt the speed accordingly. DS N°8 will slow itself gradually before negotiating a turn and then accelerate again. This feature is also active in roundabouts and junctions.
Lane Keep Assist is also included in DS DRIVE ASSIST 2.0. It identifies drift and gradually steers the vehicle in the opposite direction to keep it in its lane. Crossing a line without first activating the turn signal is considered drifting, triggering the intervention of the system, which operates between 70 and 180 km/h. This feature is a regulatory requirement in Europe and can be disabled on the touch screen.
ACTIVE LANE CHANGE ASSIST
Active Lane Change Assist is the latest technology for blind spot detection. It uses radar with a range of 75 meters instead of only a few meters for ultrasonic sensors. This system warns the driver of vehicles approaching from behind, lights up an LED in the exterior mirror on the relevant side, and if the driver still tries to change lanes, gentle resistance is applied to the steering wheel to try to deter the driver from carrying out the manoeuvre.
DRIVER ATTENTION ALERT
The Driver Attention Alert system consists of two cameras and continuously monitors the driver's eyes and behaviour. The aim is to detect any signs of fatigue, distraction or drowsiness. An infrared camera, located at the top of the steering column, observes the face, where they're looking and eyelids. A multi-purpose camera at the top of the windscreen detects the driver swerving between white lines at above 65 km/h. If it concludes they're not paying attention, the driver is alerted by an audible signal and a warning message in the instrument display.
PARKING SENSORS AND VISION 360
DS N°8 is fitted with 12 ultrasonic sensors that monitor its surroundings. They are supported by a VISIO PARK reversing camera, for manoeuvres in reverse gear. VISION 360 complements this system using 3 additional cameras located in the rear bumper, in the grille and under the side mirrors.
REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT
Rear Cross Traffic Alert is designed to help you reverse safely from spaces where approaching traffic (car, pedestrian, cyclist) is not visible. To do this, the device uses rear-view radar, monitors two detection zones (up to 40 m to the right and left) and operates from 0 to 10 km/h.
WRONG PEDAL PREVENTION
The WPP system detects the driver confusing the accelerator and brake pedals. It is especially active - and useful - when the accelerator pedal is pressed hard instead of the brake. If an obstacle is in the immediate vicinity of the car, acceleration is reduced and the driver is informed by a visual alert and an audible warning. The "WPP" system works in forward and reverse gears.
MULTIMEDIA AND CONNECTED SERVICES
DS N°8 is fitted with an operating system whose power has been increased tenfold, and it takes a step forward with its service packs which offer greater peace of mind.
"Connected services are now one of the most important offerings for our premium customers, who are highly demanding, especially when they're choosing an electric car. The connected services offered with DS N°8 have been designed for a stress-free electric experience and will help our customers in daily use, either on short or long journeys." Agnès Tesson-Faget, DS Automobiles Product Director
DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0: by fingertips and voice
The next-generation multimedia system used by DS Automobiles can be controlled using speech recognition or from the large 16-inch touchscreen. It is an "all-in-one" framework including an 8-speaker audio system (or 14 with the Electra® 3D by Focal Hi-fi), 4 USB-C sockets, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0 also unlocks access to multiple connected services.
DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0 is powerful, with a very intuitive human-machine interface, in the spirit of a smartphone. The intelligent touchscreen has two zones. The first, on the left, is for the driver. They can configure up to 4 different screens that scroll horizontally and display the desired widgets. On the right, there's an area for the front passenger, where this time, the various information scrolls vertically. DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0's flash and RAM memories have been multiplied by 2 and 1.5 respectively. The speed of the screen's responsiveness has also been doubled. On a practical level, a bar with all the relevant information (outside temperature, Bluetooth connection, phone charge status, time etc...) is permanently displayed, as is ventilation information, which is always instantly accessible. Multiple background colours are available (shades of blue, red or gold), their appearance changing in day or night modes. These backgrounds are in keeping with the Brand, as are the materials, trims and specifications of DS N°8's cockpit.
CONNECT ONE PACK
Included for 10 years with the purchase of DS N°8, this pack contains essential services such as SOS & ASSISTANCE, remote maintenance (a monthly report on the car's condition, booking a service slot), the digital service record and all remote updates (for infotainment elements, but also for software, particularly drivetrains).
CONNECT PLUS PACK
This service is included for three years on any of the Brand's cars, providing maximum peace of mind. On DS N°8, the CONNECT PLUS pack is equipped with connected services to increase the serenity of all-electric travel:
In-car EV ROUTING
Travelling in DS N°8 means enjoying a substantial range and optimised travel time with the in-car EV ROUTING journey planner. It is linked to the DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0 Connected Navigation which includes mapping updates, points of interest, danger zones, etc... On a route programmed into the navigation system, this service analyses the energy requirements according to real-time traffic and consumption. It displays the optimal route and route information, taking account of any potential charging locations required. Embedded EV ROUTING continuously selects the charging points that best suit the car's needs, both in terms of power and stopping time. It also accounts for the charge level desired by the driver when they arrive at their destination.
Battery pre-conditioning
To minimise stopping time, DS N°8 prepares the battery cells by conditioning them to be at a beneficial temperature for a high and regular charging curve. On a long journey, the on-board EV ROUTING automatically triggers battery preconditioning before arriving at a charging station. This ensures that the cells are in the best state for charging, regardless of the outside temperature.
Plug & charge functionality
DS N°8 will allow its driver to set off with total peace of mind. The Free2move Charge "Go" service will implement the "Plug & Charge" technology which means all you have to do is plug in the charging cable. Recognition of the car, your subscription or prepaid package will be done instantly and combined on a single bill. This service will start a few months after DS N°8's launch.
Extended speech recognition and ChatGPT
The French manufacturer is taking another step forward with an improvement in speech recognition through spatialisation. When several people are inside, DS N°8 recognises the voice and position of the person speaking to it from the first row. If the front-seat passenger says "Ok Iris, I'm cold, turn up the temperature", the system understands that you need to add a few degrees just on the passenger's side of the cockpit.
At the beginning of 2024, DS Automobiles was the first manufacturer in the world to include ChatGPT services as standard across its entire range with DS IRIS SYSTEM. Inside DS N°8, all you have to do is ask a question in a natural way, as if you were talking to a human being, for the Art of Travel to take on another dimension. Through artificial intelligence, ChatGPT is able to handle any type of request. Need more information before a visit to the Palace of Versailles? Need to keep a child busy for the next two hours? What can you visit in terms of its geographical location? A true personal assistant, IRIS supported by ChatGPT is not only a source of information, but can also help find a place and ask the navigation system to program the destination. With ChatGPT, DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0 provides unprecedented benefits.
The CONNECT PLUS pack also allows you to take advantage of other features via the MyDS app such as remote control for charging (programming the charging start time, pre-conditioning the cabin temperature etc...), remote control (locking/unlocking, headlights and horn) and the connected alarm (on a vehicle fitted with the physical alarm).
Furthermore, DS N°8 offers the e-ROUTES app for preparing your drive in advance. e-ROUTES by Free2move Charge, available on MyDS, is a route planner that allows you to plot your trip away from your car. It calculates the best travel time by including any charging points. This mobile application can become a real co-pilot since it can be used wirelessly "mirroring" on DS N°8's large central screen. The route calculation is updated in real time.
